Pillows: For Sale SOON !

Ok, so here are some details about the pillow making shop that I plan on opening this week ! I'm getting excited, and hope that you all are as well ! If you have any feedback on these ideas, I would love to hear them, so send your comments to my ASK box:

Cost per pillow:
$20/each, or 2 for $35. When you factor in my costs to make each pillow, and then add the labour+time for sewing them (sewing each deer antler down is hard work!) this makes sense. Also, I discovered while browsing Etsy that this is almost half the price of the competitors.

Colour & Appearance:

I have a variety of different coloured fabrics (all floral, right now) and depending on the background colour, either a white or black accent colour will be used for the silhouettes. As of right now, I have only made the deer+wolf sets, but I have a few different design ideas for other sets as well !

What you get:
A unique, hand-made 15”x15” pre- stuffed pillow (why sell just a cover, and make you go buy a pillow insert yourself?!) that will finish off any home or bedroom :) . (Note: if you live in a far off country, and the cost of shipping will out-weigh the cost of a pillow insert, I’m sure we can figure something out)

Thank you all for your kind words on my last post about losing my dog, Mollie. I really appreciated it<3. These are just some silly photos I took outside in my yard, in between taking other photos (which I will post in the next couple days). I have been so busy these past two days, and it won't get any less busy anytime soon. I am doing school full-time, and then my office job after class for about 4 hours a day. I am exhausted ! I love my job, though, and I won't complain about having steady income again :) Hope you all are having a good week. x

RIP Mollie

It’s hard to believe that it was only a week ago, today that we first noticed a bump on my dog, Mollie’s, nose. In that week it grew into a tumour, caused nose bleeds, hyperventilating and a lot of pain for her. We decided last night that putting her down was the humane thing to do, since she was already 13 years old. My mom, dad, brother, and I took her to the vet this morning, after giving her a full steak for breakfast. We all sat with her, held her, and loved her until her last breath. Leaving her body on the floor of the vet’s office was the hardest thing in the world to do. It felt like we were abandoning a member of the family. The house feels so empty without Mollie here, and I think it will be a while until this feels like home again. Mollie, we love and miss you more than words can describe. You were truly the best dog, and one of the family. I miss you, Booboo.

Amazing Christmas Gift: Part One

My boyfriend, Brad, got me the most incredible, and thoughtful gifts for Christmas. The first part is the sweetest little gold necklace, but with a cute hidden message. The beads on the chain spell out "Love" in morse-code ! It is from an online jewellery store called Coatt. I am in love with it ! Brad is officially the best gift giver.

I hope that everyone had a lovely Holiday. I think my favourite part of Christmas, this year, was breakfast. Brad's friends did a Secret Santa (click here if you don't know what that means) and the girl that picked me bought the most fantastic gift possible: a waffle-maker that makes waffles in the shape of little hearts ! I have been having so much fun with it, and all the little icings and sprinkles that she also included in the gift. So, my family had lots of waffles, sausages, bacon, eggs and champagne for breakfast.

I couldn't think of ideas for what my family could get me for Christmas, so I just asked for money. Only, my mom was super awesome and remembered that Brad and I had been complaining about wanting to go snowboarding, only I can't afford to this year. So, she and my dad bought Brad and I each a gift card to cover the cost of 2 days at a ski hill just over the border !

Ben, with the new Thor headphones I bought him

My brother bought me the movie "Troll 2", which has had the long-running title of Worst Movie Ever Made. I bought him these outrageous Thor headphones and this tee-shirt. We always like to give each other strange gifts.

Gifts: From a friend

Little birdy teacup

I exchanged gifts with my friend, last weekend, and she really enjoyed the pillows that I made her. I was relieved, because as much as I love gift giving it can be stressful. I couldn't have asked for a more thoughtful and sweet gift, in return ! She got me a soy candle, a teacup, and a tin of Earl Grey tea.

I can't express how much I love this adorably sweet teacup. I have been drinking even more tea than usual, because I feel that it should always be out on display instead of sitting in a cupboard.

Paddywax "Snow" soy candle

I have been burning this candle every time I'm in my room, and I still can't get enough of it. The combination of spruce, holly and cranberry is enough to make any room (even in this mild, snowless winter) feel Christmas.

Tazo Earl Grey tea (available at Starbucks)

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I drink two things constantly: tea, and Diet Coke (I'm really healthy, right..?). Earl Grey is my absolute favourite.. it's such a classic! I love sitting in front of the fire watching movies with a nice cup of earl grey tea.

On an unrelated note, I am one person away from having 400 followers ! I would never have thought that to be possible when I started this blog, two years ago. I am so grateful. I have also decided that I am going to open up an Etsy store to sell these pillows and other designs, like it. I should be looking at opening it after Christmas, when all the excitement of the holidays begins to die down. Hope everyone is having a great week, so far ! x

Holiday Gifts: Handmade Pillows

I have this one friend who is just the loveliest, and since I couldn't decide what to buy her for Christmas, I chose to make her gift ! Not to brag, but I am in love with how these pillows turned out, and I will definitely make a couple for myself with the left-over fabric. She (I'm not using names, because I haven't given them to her yet lol) loves little sweet housewares as much as I do, so choosing the design was very easy! Originally, I was going to take two old photo frames and, with the same fabric and design, create wall art for their new house. However, Value Village wanted to charge me $20 for 2 frames, and I thought that was a bit high.

My question to you all is this: hypothetically speaking, if I were to open an Etsy store and sell pillows like these and other rustic-cute housewares+trinkets, would that be something that you could see yourself buying? I just want some feedback before I spend the last of my money on purchasing some listings !

I have had to get creative with gifts, this Christmas. In the summer I had more money than I knew how to spend.. but apparently I found a way to spend it. I have two more gifts to buy and then I'm broke.. what a terrible feeling. But, I am really happy with all of the gifts that I have purchased, so far ! I am beyond excited to give Brad his gift, since I know he'll love it ! Buying for my dad was simple this year: he just asked me to sew suede elbow-patches onto a cardigan that my late grandfather gave to him. I think it's a wonderful idea, and it barely cost anything ! Baking: Terry's Chocolate Orange shortbread cookies !

I was in a christmas baking mood again, last night. I saw a recipe for these Terry's Chocolate Orange shortbread cookies, and since orange-flavoured chocolate is both mine and Brad's favourite, I figured these would be perfect ! They were so easy to make, and only took about an hour, including baking time. x

I changed the header of the blog. I like this one much more than the old one !
Lately I have been so busy with school, and trying to get money off of a man who hit my car (long story..). Since I have been so busy, I haven't been home a lot, and my cat Nelson was so excited that I came home early so he decided to sneak into almost all of my pictures. He likes the spotlight, I guess. Unfortunately, the weather here in St. Catharines is not matching my mood at all. I feel like we should be ankle-deep in snow, and that I should be cozied up in front of the fire, reading a book. However, it has just been rain, warm-ish temperatures and sun. Maybe one day the seasons will live up to my expectations.

Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake

This is a wonderful and easy recipe for pumpkin-swirl cheesecake ! Perfect for Autumn. I got the recipe from here. x

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups crushed gingersnap cookies
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup white sugar, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 eggs
1 cup canned pumpkin
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a medium bowl, mix together the crushed gingersnap cookies, pecans, and butter. Press into the bottom, and about 1 inch up the sides of a 9 inch springform pan. Bake crust 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Set aside to cool.
In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, 1/2 cup sugar, and vanilla just until smooth. Mix in eggs one at a time, blending well after each. Set aside 1 cup of the mixture. Blend 1/4 cup sugar, pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the remaining mixture.
Spread the pumpkin flavored batter into the crust, and drop the plain batter by spoonfuls onto the top. Swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
Bake 55 minutes in the preheated oven, or until filling is set. Run a knife around the edge of the pan. Allow to cool before removing pan rim. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

Sitting on the ferry

Hello, hello ! As I right this, I am sitting on the ferry that will take me from Vancouver to Victoria. I am not a fan of oceans or boats, so this is kind of nerve-wracking, but I'll be fine. My trip has been great so far. It was nice spending one on one time with my dad, and seeing all of my parents old friends, and my god father. Mmmm, something on the ferry smells fantastic haha. You are getting a play by play of what is going on around me. I am listening to the Party Monster soundtrack in one ear, and eavesdropping on the people in front of me with the other ear. I just looked out the window to see some brave souls standing out in the rain to get a good look at the scenery.

Beautiful British Columbia

Landed safely in beautiful British Columbia tonight ! The flight seemed to take forever, even though it was only 5 hours. I watched Never Let Me Go on the plane (I love that movie, but it always makes me cry) and a bunch of episodes of Community. Off to Kamloops, which is where I was born, in the morning ! xx

Packing

video by me. It is a stop-motion of me packing my suitcase for my trip. Music is Neopolitan Dreams - Lisa Mitchell. I only got halfway done before my mom came in and questioned why I was filming my packing, then the inspiration was gone so I just left it at this.

I leave for British Columbia tomorrow, and I am very excited ! My plans changed a bit when my dad's good friend passed away after battling ALS for the last several years, so now my dad and me are both going to fly to Kamloops (my home town) for the funeral. Then we will drive down to Vancouver, and he will drop me off at the ferry and return home. From there, I will take the ferry to Victoria and meet up with my friend, Meara ! Hopefully my job hunt goes well, and I can stay out there. xx

When the world seems to get too tough, bring it all back to you

Why yes, I am listening to S-Club 7, haha. I had such a lovely weekend. I went to visit my best friend at her university in Toronto, and to top it off her little sister was there too which was awesome ! On Saturday we went downtown and wandered around the Eaton Centre. We would have ventured around the city, but it reached -20 degrees celsius this weekend, so we didn't want to be outside very much. We met up with Gabby and her friend Aaron for dinner on Queen St. West, and went to an amazing crepe restaurant. But leave it to me to go to a place that specializes in crepes and order a sandwich..haha. I wish I took more photos, especially at the restaurant, but I was having such a good time I completely forgot. Once again, the curse of being the only one taking photos strikes again... I'm not in a single one, haha. I love the photo of Lauren and Anneliese (her sister), and I don't know why ! Lauren is one of those people who has really lovely bone structure, and looks insanely lovely (even when not trying, or paying attention) and this captures Anneliese's spirit perfectly. She listens to rad music, never wears makeup, doesn't give a #@!* what people think (but not in an annoying "non-comformist" way), always says the most entertainingly funny things, and is only in the tenth grade, whereas most people don't figure stuff like this out until they are older. I love that family, they are incredible. xx

Hello, lovelies. I have such an amazing week ahead of me. I am going to visit one of my best friends, Lauren and her little sister Anneliese in Toronto this weekend ! And then on Tuesday (I think), I am flying out to Victoria, BC to stay with one of my other best friends, Meara ! I am beyond excited.
Which leads me to my next point. I am hoping to move out to Victoria or Vancouver until August and am currently looking for a job/place to live. So if any of you readers are from the area and know of a job opening or an apartment then let me know, please ! Even if you or someone you know needs a roommate, I'm down haha. Kindof late, but here's my year in review !

This is my outfit recap of 2010. We'll start with the beginning of the year (Spring):

I was still living with my aunt and uncle in January, and doing a semester back at high school. I was doing a lot of painting/sewing in my spare time.

I made this dress for my final project in fashion class. It was inspired by Zooey Deschanel's style. I wish I lived in a place where I could wear this more often without getting looks.

This was the first year that I actually watched the olympics !

I wore these 80s pearls everywhere... now, I wonder why I wore them at all. I was also really digging the straight bangs at this time.

I bought two of the most gorgeous slips at a thrift store.

My mom's side of the family came to visit in May, which was awesome !

I bought the most incredible vintage dress from a shop in Kensington Market, Toronto, with my mom.

This was a Bar-B-Que restaurant that we went to in Austin. My dad had said he wanted to try one, and thanks to the internet my brother tweeted asking if anyone from Austin could recommend a good place. Within minutes he had responses from a ton of people, but we went with Chris Cargill's selection and he even came with us ! It was the best food I have had in a while, and it was such an interesting experience meeting up with someone through twitter...especially since my brother is a huge fan of his movie reviews and podcasts (he's a pretty well known freelance writer/reviewer). If you are ever near Austin, Texas, make sure you go to Mann's Bar-B-Que.

Apart from having amazing style (and an obvious choice since I lurk the crap out of her blog archives), Becca also happens to go to school with me and I am in her room almost every day. I have never had a friend before who also runs a personal style blog, and it is so refreshing to have someone to talk to about blogging and such without sounding like a self-obsessed tool. Plus, Becca knows of every blog in the world so I never run out of new ones to look at ! She is studying fashion design, and also makes adorable little bows which she sells on Etsy.

I was so pleased to wake up yesterday morning to a thin layer of snow covering the grounds of my school ! There is something so soothing to looking out the window from bed, and seeing little snowflakes falling from the sky decorating the scenery.
On an unrelated note, I won 2 tickets from my school to go see The Arkells play a concert tonight ! If this sounds familiar, it's because I've seen them two other times, already. You know what they say: third time's the charm ! Have a good night !

I was reminded recently that my school lends out camera equipment for free, so today I stocked up on cool stuff ! I borrowed a Nikon D90, a tele-photo lens, a fisheye lens (my personal favourite), and an external flash. I am having a lot of fun playing around with the camera. These were some photos I took of my outfit for half the day. I had around 3 outfit changes today: 1 that I wore to class that was comfy, then a dress for photo adventures with my friends, and then this outfit to relax in ! I hope you all had a great day !

I think if I am sick for one more day I am going to go insane. My plan to get a good night sleep last night failed miserably, and I stayed awake until 4am. It took 3 Gravol pills to finally put me to sleep. Thankfully, today is my late day of classes. I had to cut my shower short today too, when I started feeling so faint that I thought I was going to pass out in the bathroom. These photos were taken yesterday, when I cocooned myself in my blankets and tried to sleep off this horrible flu. Note my puffy cheeks and bed head... attractive, eh ? Off to my 3 hour long accounting class now ! Have a great day !

ps, listen to this song. It's called "Song for Dan Treacy" by MGMT. Anyone who says that the album, Congratulations, is not as good as Oracular Spectacular is crazy. It is so amazing, and so much more like their original stuff from their old EP.

Living in a dorm room, you get very used to having all white surroundings.. walls, doors, closet organizers shelves, blinds are all white. Even my desk is a pale shade of wood. The only thing that differs from the rest of the decor is the horrendous dark grey carpeting. So, I needed a way to add a bit of colour to my room, without making it look tacky or over-done. I started by picking one accent colour for my room (I chose red) and adding little hints of the colour throughout, like my garbage bin, lamp, and sheets. For the walls, I decided that I would make it look like I spent money on decals, when really the only cost was the original price of the Nylon magazine that I hacked to bits to make the design. I drew up 4 different bird stencils, all of them at a different stage of flight (flapping their wings, gliding, diving, etc) and then traced the stencils on torn out magazine pages. Then, I used sticky tack to make them stay on the wall, and voila ! Took about 20 minutes, and cost about $3.00 !

That's a lie, I'm not wide awake and it is 6:00pm right now ! I have been so tired for the last few weeks. My mom thinks it has to do with a lack of iron in my body, since I haven't been eating proper meals at school. Anyways, school has been fun so far, and Halloween was awesome ! I dressed up as a Scotsman. I still feel like I want to transfer to a college right in Toronto for next year, though. I am not a mid-sized city person.. I love small towns or huge cities.

On another note, those scratches on my arm are the result of a drunken fall on Friday. I have more unidentifiable cuts and bruises on my body than anyone I know !

On a side-note, my roommate, Christina, had a great idea the other day: As you probably know, November has been selected as the month where all of the boys grow big dirty mustaches and no one can tell them to shave them off because it's Movember (mustache+November).. Well, Christina decided that boys shouldn't get to be the only ones who have all of the fun, so for the entire month of November she will wear lipstick to classes and while she does her day-to-day activities. I apologize for my lack of posts, this past week. I had a little bit of homework, and then went away for the weekend ! My friend Lauren goes to school in Toronto, at York University, so I decided to pay her a little visit this weekend. We did lots of fun stuff, which I will fill you in on as the week progresses ! I have received a ton of comments regarding my wall art, which has been in the background of a few of my recent pictures, so I will hopefully get around to taking some photos of it and explaining it this week as well ! I feel like I haven't worn a dress in a long time, so today I tossed on an old favourite for my classes ! I also realized that I had never shown you two of my favourite possessions: my black vintage brief-case bag, and my Steve Madden clogs (which, by the way, are not floating magically in the photo above.. I am holding them strangely so you can't see my hand !) ! I got the bag at a thrift store in Niagara for only $4. The clogs were a steal as well, because they were originally $130, marked down to $40, and then when I went to the cash register to pay for them the man said they were only $20 ! I was in a total state of shock !

I bought these two bottles of Rimmel nail polish a few weeks ago, and I really like them. The brush is extra wide, so you can paint an entire nail in practically one stroke. The only thing I find annoying about this product is that it peels off easily. I have a project due tomorrow, so I should work on that now. Goodbye !

Losing followers makes me sad :( I'm in my Design Principles class for the next 3 hours, and I'll just be thinking about it the whole time. Its almost like someone breaking up with you.. you just get self-consious and wonder why they would have stopped liking you ! haha. I'm bored in class, if you can't tell. I am fascinated right now by how much my teacher looks like Kate Winslett. I rewatched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind the other night.. oh how I love that movie. How are you today ? I changed the header, again. I apologize for my excessive need for change, but I got bored again. The changes in this blog are definitely reflecting the changes in my personal style... everything is being simplified. A year ago, I would not be caught dead in such plain outfits, but college has brought out the "slob" in me. However, I have found many ways to dress comfortably without sacrificing personal style. For instance, instead of wearing sweat suits or pyjamas, I wear slouchy shirts with scarves, oversized cardigans, tights, and then either my moccasins or my mom's brown boots.

Today, I got a new fall coat and scarf while I was shopping for my brother's birthday present. Now, I know my mom reads this blog, so I will clarify that I needed a longer fall coat and I got it for only $20 ! With fall beginning, I am getting more into layering, which is difficult because my roommates like having the thermostat set to 25 degrees Celsius !! Anyways, I am off to attempt to sleep, despite the ridiculously loud party happening down the hall... if I hear "olayyy, olay, olay, olay!" one more time I am going to lose it. I have been following Romina's blog, donnaromina.blogspot.com, for a few months now and it seems like every one of her posts leaves me having a "wow!" moment. Her outfits are consistently creative, and reflect her personal style which I would refer to as "structured hippie", because while her wardrobe is very chic and edgy, there is usually a bit of a free-spirit angle thrown in. Did I mention that she is only 15 ?? I wish that I could have been as stylish as her when I was that age ! Well, I am currently a little drunk (sorry, mom) and want to share some things with you lovely people !

1) Officially at 200 followers..WOW. I can still remember when I was at 8 for a few months, and was super stoked on knowing that anyone read my blog at all ! So thank you, old and new followers. None of you are overlooked, and I love you all for showing an interest in Haggard Library !

I am loving the insane amount of natural light that my dorm room gets.. I have always been drawn to sunny rooms, which was why I was sad when I found out that the house my parents bought last year was almost all shade. I am saying that I love sunshine now, but I bet I'll be saying something different when the sun wakes me up early tomorrow ! On a different note: Today, I went on an adventure in London (Ontario) with my new friends Sean and Isaac. We went to Starbucks, and then sat in Victoria Park and watched people pass by... It was lovely !

I got this skirt and vest from H&M on Sunday, with my brother ! For the first time in a long time, I decided to shop by the latest trends. For example, I know that big, chunky knits are in.. so I bought that vest. I also know that camel is one of the most popular colours this season, so of course I bought a camel pencil skirt ! I always get strange looks from my school mates when I wear that vest, but I just think "man, it is like a blanket that I can wear to class !!" Anyways, I hope that you are all having a fantastic week, and are highly anticipating this fall season, like I am !

For my illustration class, we were asked to sketch some bras inspired by Alice in Wonderland. My teacher runs an organization called "Braz for the Cause", which helps raise money for the fight against breast cancer, and she gets the fashion design students to each make a bra and they auction the best ones off. Unfortunately since I am in fashion merchandising, and not design, my designs are only done for practice and fun :(. However, I may still make them in my spare time !

Hello, hello ! Today, I woke up at 5:30am (ughh) so that I could get ready and go to my college orientation that happened to be 2 hours away ! I can't wait to move in to my dorm on Friday, especially now that I have talked to most of my roommates on facebook. They seem pretty awesome, and I am really looking forward to living with them ! I also met up with some of the ladies in my program (fashion merchandising) and they are the sweetest bunch of ladies ! Anyways, here are some updates for you:

1) I hope you like the new layout ! I actually wasn't planning on changing it, but I messed it up beyond repair when I accidentally changed part of the html, saved it, and then couldn't remember how to change it back.

2) I got an email today about an exciting new venture that I am hopefully going to be featured in, soon ! However, as this thing is still in the works, I have been sworn to secrecy !

"Pete Campbell's Bitch Face" is my new favourite tumblr blog. It made me laugh for 10 minutes straight. It is several pages of photos, completely dedicated to the silly bitch faces that Vincent Kartheiser makes while playing Pete on Mad Men. Now, Pete Campbell is actually one of my favourite characters in Mad Men, but there is no denying how funny this is. Also, howwwww did I not know that there is going to be a Shit My Dad Says TV show until 5 minutes ago ?! OR that it stars William Shatner ?! Apparently, I live under a rock.
